A COMMITMENT TO SERVING THE COMMUNITY
OWS is committed to the community and proud to sponsor volunteer opportunities and support local organizations both directly and indirectly through contributions to the philanthropic efforts of employees.
Operation Backpack. For each of the past 3 years, OWS collected and donated backpacks filled with school supplies to some of New York City’s neediest children before the start of the new school year. More than 11,000 school age children live with their families in the New York City homeless shelter system. Through Operation Backpack, Volunteers of America provides new, filled backpacks to students who are homeless.
Citymeals-on-Wheels Volunteer Food Delivery. OWS employees annually distribute lunch to homebound New Yorkers through Citymeals-on-Wheels. Citymeals is one of the largest meals-on-wheels programs in the U.S., providing 2 million meals to 18,000 elderly New Yorkers each year. In addition to nutritionally balanced senior meals, volunteers deliver vital human companionship.
Per Scholas. In 2013, OWS donated personal computing devices to Per Scholas, an organization headquartered in the South Bronx that fights poverty by providing technology education, access, training and job placement services for people in underserved communities.
OWS Employee Efforts. OWS Partners are active in their communities, including serving on the National Board of Directors of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation and on the Board of Focus for A Future Inc. OWS supports employee efforts, including those with Memorial Sloan Kettering’s athletic fundraising program Fred’s Team and Habitat for Humanity. OWS also coordinates employee efforts to support City Harvest in its fight against hunger in NYC.
